7 No Fail Summer Hair Care Tips

Summer is a time for making memories with those who matter most and lots of fun in the sun. As we gear up for the hot months ahead, so many are talking about how to protect the skin from too much sun but for someone who is obsessed with great looking hair, it’s important to also protect those locks that can take a beating from overexposure to heat, chemically treated pools and salt water.

With some intentional effort and good products, you can keep your hair protected and looking great all summer long with these 7 no-fail hair care tips.

1. Trim It

Kick summer off with a good trim. Even if you are trying to grow your hair out you can tell your stylist to keep the cutting light. This will help eliminate split ends and refresh your style. Hair grows faster in the summer because there are more hairs in the anagen, or growing stage, during late spring and summer than in the winter months.

2. Keep It Covered

Sure, there will be times that you want to let your hair soak up some rays and blow in the warm summer breeze but when you don’t need to expose your hair to the sun, don’t. While sitting at the ball field with the kids, lounging out by the pool or taking a stroll on the beach keep your hair covered with a stylish ball cap or fashionable hat and save sun exposure for times when you are more active like swimming, diving or boating.

3. Limit The Heat

You know what is so great about the summer months? Natural heat. Why spend time inside heating up your bathroom to dry your hair with a blow dryer and then step outside and expose it to even more heat? After washing your hair, use it as an opportunity to let Mother Nature dry your hair naturally.

Apply a good quality detangler that will also moisturize your hair with natural extracts like Olive Fruit Oil while it’s still wet and let it air dry outside while you curl up in a comfy chair on your patio to catch up on a good book.

4. Condition It

To keep your hair soft, keeping it conditioned is key. You can use all natural oils like coconut and avocado to keep your hair silky and smooth or a good quality Restore Leave-In Conditioner with an added bonus of providing UVA/UVB sun protection. Either way, don’t skip the conditioning step during the summer months.

5. Make A Product Switch

Switching to a hydrating shampoo and conditioner can make sense during the summer as you will probably be washing your hair more frequently than you do during the fall and winter months to help deal with the sweat, grime and chemicals your hair will be exposed to on a daily basis.

Using a complete Hydration Hair Care System can help you take the guesswork out of which products to buy and use while giving you optimal hair care all summer long.

6. Drink More Water

Did you know that your hair can absorb about 30%-50% of its weight in water?! Hydration is not only important on a cellular level but it’s vital for our skin and hair health. When we don’t drink enough water, our hair can become brittle and dry. So keep that favorite Yeti or water bottle filled with good for your hair and body H2O. Here are some great recipes from Wellness Mamafor fruit and herb infused water to help staying hydrated more delicious and fun.

7. Keep It Loose

Our hair can take a beating during the summer not only from the environment and what we expose it to but as the temps heat up we find it’s easier to keep our hair pulled back off our neck and out of our face. Tight styles using ponytail holders and hair ties can cause damage and breakage so opt for more loose hairstyles that aren’t so hard on your hair.

I hope you found these tips helpful in keeping your hair looking summer beautiful! I would love to hear from you, what is your best summer hair care tip?
