Business Idea. First step is to come up with a business idea. Will you offer a service or product?
Leverage Your Strengths. Are you good at design? Customer service? Social Media? Accounting? Love animals? Use your passions, gifts and talents to help you decide what kind of services and/or products you will offer. If you need help with this, enlist your friends and family to help you. Start by asking them what they would come to you for help with.
Define Your Target Market. Who are the types of people who need your products and/or services? Spend some time researching your audience to identify the problems they need solved. People buy services and products that solve their problems.
Create A Business Name. Think about a name for your business. Be creative but use words that accurately describe what you do. Secure a url through GoDaddy or similar provider. Do your research. Run the name and idea by friends and family and search social media to see if anyone is using the name before buying a URL.
Get Legit. Talk to your tax professional to see if you need a DBA, LLC, tax ID number, etc for your business.
Business Account. It’s a good idea to separate your personal expenses from your business. Talk to your tax professional about how to set up a business banking account.
Set Up Your Office. Even a home based business needs a designated space to work. Create a space that will inspire you.
Create A Website And Social Media Accounts. You don’t have to spend a fortune but you do need to look like a professional business with a business logo, mission statement and office hours. There are lots of options so be sure to research the one that is right for your business. eCommerce products for example, Shopify is a great platform with advantages for shipping discounts and social media apps to make running your business easier. If you are a service based business, Word Press and Squarespace (what I use) are good options.
Marketing and Advertising. No one will know you are open for business if you don’t set aside time and resources for marketing and advertising. You don’t have to spend a fortune but you will need a budget for a website, business cards, running social media ads to help get the word out about your business.
Join A Network Marketing Company. Partnering with a network marketing company can make launching a home based business much quicker and easier as you are partnering with a company that already has the products, marketing, training and support in place v. you figuring all of that out on your own. Within a matter of days you can have products in your hand and be sharing them with others right from the comfort of your home and smart phone while earning a commission.
