5 Tips To Healthier, Younger Looking Skin This Fall
With fall in full swing, it’s time to think about proper skin care this time of year. Autumn months bring cooler weather, sweaters, boots, camp fires and a drop in humidity, which makes for dry, stale air and unfortunately for most women drier skin. Mix this with dry air from running our heaters indoors and it’s a recipe for skin issues like eczema and dry, itchy skin but this doesn’t have to be your reality friend with proper skincare. In fact, you could be on your way to having younger, healthier skin!
Here are 5 tips you can implement during the fall and winter months and at the end you will have an opportunity to take a quiz to help you learn even more about your skin type and how to care for it.
1. CLEAN OUT AND ORGANIZE YOUR PRODUCTS
It’s hard to know what you need and what you can use when you don’t know what you have. With the changing of each season, go through your beauty products to see what you have and be sure to look at expiration dates. Old products well past their shelf life should be used up immediately or tossed. Once you have organized your products you can figure out what will transition over into a new season, what won’t and you can make a list of what you need.
2. TURN TO A THICKER MOISTURIZER
With drier months ahead, it may be time to say goodbye to the lightweight, oil-free moisturizers you’ve been using during the summer and opt for a heftier hydrator to help replenish the naturally occurring fatty acids in your skin during the colder months.
3. CUT BACK ON EXFOLIATING
During the summer months when our skin is oilier and we are spending time outside slathering on sunscreens, sweating and exposing our skin to outdoor elements like sand, salt and chlorinated water, exfoliating is more important but during the dry winter months when our skin is not being hydrated, over exfoliating can cause irritation.
4. KEEP UP THE SUNSCREEN
Just because you have traded your swimsuit and days out by the pool for your favorite jeans and winter boots doesn't mean you can forget the sunscreen. Facial sunscreen is a daily essential even in autumn, especially since overcast days make it easy for us to forget how much sun we are exposing our skin to. So keep up the daily use of a facial moisturizer with a minimum of SPF 15.
5. USE A HUMIDIFIER
There is nothing worse than waking up with dry, tight feeling skin. Using a humidifier, especially at night, can help to replenish moisture back into the air and into your skin.
Fall reminds us that change is good so embrace all the things you love about these months and use them to your advantage in your beauty routine. Your skin will love you for it!
